Style Article CALEXICO MUSE: NAOMI LEWIS

CALEXICO MUSE: NAOMI LEWIS

Some women shift the energy the moment they enter a room — Naomi Lewis is one of them. A powerhouse family lawyer, firm owner, and long-time Calexico client, she pairs sharp intellect with quiet confidence and impeccable taste.

Her beautifully styled office — complete with a playful mini-trampoline — reflects her world of high-stakes decisions, levity, and daily female empowerment. Family is her anchor, grounding her fast-paced life of running a practice, raising her daughter, and renovating her pink home, where she and her husband even inherited a beloved dog.

Through it all, Naomi’s style remains unmistakably her own: powerful, feminine, and touched with rock-and-roll. This month, we celebrate her as our Muse — a reminder that strength and softness can coexist, and that style is simply leadership expressed.

You have this calm, confident energy at work. On the days when you’re not in lawyer mode, what helps you feel grounded as yourself?

I feel most myself in the quieter moments – tending to my garden with my daughter or spending time by the ocean. Having a creative outlet (like a building and design project) replenishes me, and daily yoga or reformer pilates keeps me centred. I am naturally a big dreamer, living with my head in the clouds all too often, so these rituals anchor me back to the present.

You’ve built a law firm that feels more like a sanctuary for women than just a workplace. Was there a moment when you thought, “Yes. This is exactly why I do this”?

I am fortunate to have a career that I genuinely love and find deep fulfilment in every day.

I spent my twenties as a mathematical economist in government and Big Four consulting, but I increasingly craved work rooted in human connection. As I moved into my thirties, I made a big pivot and chose to put my law degree to use.

More than a decade later, I am still struck by the privilege and responsibility of being invited into someone’s life at a point of crisis, guiding them through the grief and complexity of separation and divorce. And I lead an exceptional team whose values, skill and dedication mirror my own in the way they show up for our clients.

Your office is so perfectly you, the styling, the scent, the trampoline — it’s a whole Naomi world. How does that space shape the way you show up as a leader?

When I purchased our Eagle Street premises in 2018, I was adamant that it would not be a clinical, corporate environment. I wanted a space that felt warm, calming and reflective of how I lead and how I practise law. Our space has been intentionally designed to help our clients and my team feel held, not intimidated.

I also show up best in a space that feels authentically “me”. I think that authenticity gives others permission to relax into vulnerability, which is of course when the real conversations happen and the best decisions are made.

And yes, the trampoline in my office is always a talking point! I often kick off my heels and jump for a minute or two to reset and re-energise.

We know you have a signature “work power look.” What’s the outfit that makes you walk in like you’ve already won? How does fashion play into your confidence as a lawyer?

I think in the legal world, clothing has traditionally served as a form of armour. A beautifully tailored blazer or “power suit”, together with my Gianvito stilettos, is what I reach for when I want to step into my most self-assured, courtroom-ready state.

That being said, in family and relationship law, where most daily interactions are layered with big emotion, I still want my presence to feel warm, sincere and steady. My wardrobe helps me embody that balance with nuance and intention.

You and your husband have the sweetest (and slightly spicy) meet-cute story. Looking back at that first Facebook message, what made you think, “Yes, this is him”?

When I first met Den, his 6’5’’ frame towered over me and I thought, “surely the universe is joking… this bloke is HOT”. A few weeks later, he sent the infamous Facebook message – strikingly direct, disarmingly romantic and certainly the boldest way I had ever been asked out.

In the ten years since, life together has been wonderfully full but fast. As a general manager for an ASX-listed company, Den is frequently interstate, so between his work/travel, my law firm, our children and our ageing parents, we’ve learnt that marriage can’t operate on a neat 50/50. It’s a shifting rhythm – we aim to move gently, taking turns holding more, softening more, giving more.

And yes – I still think he is wildly hot.

You switch from courtroom mode to family mode so effortlessly. What’s your go-to look when you’re at home with your daughter but still want to feel polished and Naomi-level chic?

Am I allowed to say that my at-home attire is usually twenty-year-old trackies and a threadbare tank top…?!

But when I am heading out and running around in wife and mum mode, I keep it simple – linen or denim shorts, a lace bralette and a Frank and Eileen button up tied up around my waist. Or perhaps an Ulla Johnson top if I want to feel a bit more feminine. My gold stack (an oval link chain and my VCA Zodiaque talisman) rarely leaves my neck – I think beautiful but understated jewellery elevates and brings polish to even the most casual of looks.

You have an incredible eye for timeless pieces. What’s the one item in your wardrobe you know you’ll pass on to your daughter — and why?

The Calexico girls have curated my wardrobe with so many beautiful pieces over the years that choosing only one feels almost impossible.

If I had to, I would probably say my olive Yves Salomon fur jacket. I think it captures the perfect blend of modern classic and soft glamour that I am always drawn to. Penelope is only six, but she already loves swanning around our home in it.
