CALEXICO MUSE: LISA HONEYCHURCH
This month, we’re honoured to spotlight Lisa Honeychurch — a long-time Calexico client, local New Farm resident, mother, wife, and the inspiring founder behind the Change for Youth Foundation.
After more than 20 years practicing law, Lisa followed her heart into philanthropy, establishing a not-for-profit dedicated to supporting young people living in out-of-home care across Queensland. With her background in psychology and trauma education, she has designed life-changing programs such as Empower Youth and Queensland’s first day-camp program for children who’ve experienced trauma.
Beyond her impressive resume, Lisa is a devoted mum to two teenage children, a wife, and a passionate advocate for health, wellbeing, and balance — all while somehow managing to make it look effortless.
Nicky Charman, founder of Calexico and ambassador for Change for Youth, sat down with Lisa to talk about style, purpose, and the quiet strength behind making change that matters.

Lisa, you’ve worn many hats — lawyer, advocate, founder, mother. What called you to step away from law and create Change for Youth nine years ago?
I was still practising law when I founded Change for Youth Foundation, after representing a young boy in foster care in a litigation case and seeing firsthand how deeply the system was failing children. That experience stayed with me. After an accident in 2019, I realised I needed to find balance and prioritise my health. I could no longer wear two demanding hats, and it felt like the right time to dedicate myself to work that was desperately needed and spoke to my heart whilst balancing my health and wellbeing.
You’ve devoted your career to improving the lives of children in care. What has been the most rewarding part of that journey?
Before Change for Youth, I worked as a human rights, employment, and litigation lawyer for over 20 years— always standing beside people who had been disadvantaged and advocating for fairness. The most rewarding part of founding Change for Youth Foundation has been witnessing how our programs made a real difference in the lives of young people. And also, seeing how people come together when given the chance to help. There’s something profoundly moving about seeing collective compassion in action.

For those who feel called to make a difference but aren’t sure where to begin — what would you say?
Start by learning. Understand what the real needs are in your community and where your time, voice, or resources can create the most change. When we focus on those who need us most, we don’t just transform lives — we change the future of our communities.
You’re currently renovating in New Farm — has the process taught you anything unexpected about yourself?
Yes — I’ve discovered that I actually have an eye for design and style, which I didn’t realise before! It’s been a creative and grounding process that’s reminded me how much beauty there is in shaping a space that reflects who you are.

How would you describe your personal style today? Has it evolved since your days in law?
Completely. My style has softened and become more eclectic and feminine. These days I’d describe it as relaxed, bohemian, and expressive — a big shift from my corporate days of suits and heels. I’ll always have a soft spot for a power suit, though!
What role does fashion play in your daily life?
I’ve always believed fashion is about more than clothes — it’s a reflection of how you feel and how you show up in the world. When you wear something that feels like you, it lifts your energy and confidence.
As a mother, wife, and founder, life must get full. What helps you stay grounded and centred?
Daily walks, yoga, and spending time with my beautiful children, husband, and dogs keep me centred. Time with my girlfriends also fills my cup — those connections remind me of the importance of laughter, love, and shared support.
You’ve been part of the Calexico community for many years. What does that connection mean to you?
I love that walking into Calexico always feels like walking into a space filled with warmth and joy. With Nicky now an Ambassador for Change for Youth, I’m so grateful for the generosity and heart the Calexico team has shown. After leaving the corporate world, they helped me rediscover my personal style — one that feels true to the woman I am today.
Through your work, you’ve seen incredible resilience in young people. What have they taught you?
They’ve taught me to find joy in the small things. I’ve witnessed the power of connection — how genuine relationships can heal, strengthen, and restore hope. That lesson has deeply shaped how I live my own life and reminded me that connection truly sits at the heart of everything that matters.
If you could capture your life philosophy in one phrase, what would it be?
To stay grounded in love, live with intention, and never lose sight of connection — because that’s where healing begins.
At Calexico, we’re proud to support Change for Youth Foundation and the extraordinary work Lisa leads in our community.
This March, founder Nicky Charman will co-host a charity lunch with Lisa, BLOOM; to raise awareness and funds for children in care — a cause close to both their hearts.
