At the start of each new season, many of us have a moment of panic when we think, “But I have no shoes!” Never fear – we can fix that in just a few clicks thanks to intel from our savvy buyers and stylists who’ve been watching the shoe trends coming out Europe with great interest.
Whether you’re partying in the city or away on vaycay, here are five options that’ll join the dots in your summer wardrobe.
1. Embellished Accents
A bejewelled pair of shoes has the power to turn an otherwise unremarkable outfit into something special. Look for a subtle smattering of diamantes or crystals on satin or patent-leather flats.
2. French Girl Wedges
Stacked wedges are a fave of Calexico Founder Nicky Charman, who’s always had a soft spot for 70s style. It’s her vibe for life.
Not that they ever really go out of style, but right now we’re seeing beautiful wedges everywhere we look – in classic jute, cool cork or raffia.
3. Barely-There Straps
They’ve been away a while, but lately we’ve been eyeing off the sexiest, daintiest heels and sandals with ultra-fine straps – in some cases barely visible to the naked eye.
The time is right because they’re such a refreshing juxtaposition to chunky slides and flatforms (our other loves) when we’re feeling fancy.
4. Flatforms & Chunky Slides
All we can say is long live the orthopaedic sandal trend. We won’t be parting with our Velcro straps and moulded footbeds any time soon. They’re as cool as they are comfy and still give you a bit of height.
5. Flats En Pointe
To those who maintain you can’t wear closed-toe shoes in summer, we say ‘Have you seen these?’ Like a devilish Mary-Jane, these pointed-toe flats with ankle strap look great with denim shorts, dresses and wide-leg pants.
