Introducing our newest boutique dedicated to Vacation Dressing
Late last week, just as Black Friday sales mayhem was peaking, Calexico Director Nicky Charman was finalising the fit-out for her newest store in Fortitude Valley – a free spirited, travel-passionate younger sister for the flagship boutique down the road.
“I decided to open Calexico Resort because vacation dressing can be hard to get right if you don’t have the tools in your toolkit – and by that I mean a tight edit of clothes and accessories in your suitcase,” explains Nicky.
“Just because we have sand between our toes doesn’t mean we can’t feel feminine and glamorous on holiday. To me, nothing says ‘lazy day seaside’ like a fabulous dress with an oversized hat, sunglasses and the perfect amount of jewellery… It’s about dressing up a little, but not too much.”
The bright, airy space at 1/79 James Street is Nicky’s third boutique opening since 2010, following on from the success of Calexico and Calexico Man. The MO here is luxury designer picks with a relaxed summer attitude.
“My rationale was, why not import a capsule collection of international designers who cater to island dressing at its best? I wanted to create a space that has everything you need under one roof,” says Nicky.

“The goal is to take the stress out of holiday packing and offer elevated essentials you don’t have to be precious with. You can get sun cream on these pieces; your kids can spill ice cream on them and it’s no big deal. Everything is washable and packable, designed to be worn from day to night. Nothing is dry clean only because who can be bothered with that on holiday?
“This year, there’s been a high demand at Calexico and Calexico Man to help clients pack for summer getaways. Fortunately, our stylists have plenty of pieces and strategies for them. It doesn’t matter whether they’re going to Greece or the Gold Coast.
